The right DNA
MARK SAYERS
interviewed by STEPHEN SAID
Australia

"
For us it is the old wells and fences. Instead of building fences keeping people in, we try and build wells in which people will be drawn to gather around. Young adults are leaving the church in droves in Australia, so we find that people who come are drawn to our DNA."

In the church but not of it...
MAGGI DAWN

"There's a lot of talk about the kind of innovative 'party church' or house-group churches; there's lots of good stuff going on there. And there is another whole raft of people - me included - who have experimented with 'new forms' and ended up doing the 'emerging' thing within the context of the traditional, or institutional Church..."

"
Many times as I have observed our culture I have called some approaches to spirituality "cut-and-paste" religion, and indeed, that's what it looks like. Some pull a little Zen, a little evangelicalism, a little orthodoxy and top it off with a smidgen of yoga as though our spirituality can be approached like our specialized drinks at Starbucks."

And one you may have missed:

Emerging Church for an Emerging Culture
IAN MOBSBY
UK

"Given the assumption that we accept the validity of liquid modernity or postmodernity, then we need to face quite a challenge. Whatdoes it mean to be 'church' in such a brave new world defined by consumptionand individualism? How do we build connections between Christians in someform of relationship and what does church look, taste and smell like in a newcontext?"

In the first of a short series looking at resources coming out of the emerging church, we talk with Peder Morgenthaler,
co-creator
of sacramentis.com's first DVD of images for worship, and take a peek at what's on it.

Will the emerging, missional,
re-imagined,
post-modern, alternative church of the future be a place that grows character? Or in seeking to incarnate the gospel in a consumer society will we have the excuses, in the name of being relevant, to avoid hard choices?

A pastoral visit prompts Richard White of 'Dream' in Liverpool to consider whether the emerging church is in danger of becoming ageist.
