Bree Dennis [Taree, New South Wales]
: thin places, strong coffee.

[10.05]

Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let's chat.
Thanks. Oh, comfy chair!

So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
My name is Bree Dennis, I’m from Taree in New South Wales, Australia and I am the Children and Youth Worker from the Manning Regional Uniting Church.

Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
Double strength flat white please (with a little sprinkle of chocolate on top!)

Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
A doughnut – chocolate coated please…Oh that looks great!

So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
Within a traditional church setting I am working with a team who is attempting to forge new and meaningful forms of worship that are responsive to community need.

Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
I am an instigator, a new recruit and I have absolutely no idea how I got involved!

What do you value most about being part of it?
The fact that we are experimenting and succeeding in creating “thin places”, sacred spaces, where God is but a breath away.

What excites you most about it?
The ultimate simplicity of it.

Has anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect?
What did they say?

Yes. They were speechless. They returned.

Three words that describe your attitude to 'being church' in the big wide world: Challenging, enlivening and real.

Three words that DON'T:
Ineffective, boring and pointless.

You have this weird dream - you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?

At a petrol station and he says “Are you okay?”

What's the big secret you're itching to share with everyone?
None of your business!

What would your 'emerging church survival kit' contain?
The Holy Spirit, love, grace, kindness, joy, pain, forgiveness, trust, truth, coffee, chocolate and a willingness to share it all!

Anything else you'd like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Ummm…Nope.

Thanks. Good to see you. Have a good day!
Thanks, I will!
