Michael Treston [Youth
Coordinator, Anglican Diocese of Nelson, NZ ] brings his own apple
to the cafe
welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of
your feet. Let's chat.
who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
Treston - not sure where I am from some days - born and raised in Redcar
England but spent the last 15 years of my life swanning around - Home
today is Nelson New Zealand. But Just finished off 4 and half years ministry
with the Baptist's in Christhcurch NZ At present I am the youth coordinator
for the Anglican Diocese of Nelson - ask me a in a few months what that
means - I have only just started the job...
I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
Earl grey, cheap de café coffee, diet Coke or a Speights would be
you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
No I'll stick with my apple - health kick you know...
if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently
involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
Pass.... I'm a youth type person with an eye for the future and a mission
to help the local church find it with out getting too lost
you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of
how you got involved?
I'm defiantly an instigator though I would prefer to call it a stirrer
with a long arm.
do you value most about being part of it?
I am not alone in my desire to see what God is doing, great friendships
and the communion wine is an improvement on Baptist grape juice..
excites you most about it?
The demise of the mainstream church has caused them to go seeking air,
desperation is a great incentive to rely on God
anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect?
What did they say?
While In Christchurch we had a visit from a Hare Krishna, really loved
the service we were running and had some great converstaions
words that describe your attitude to 'being church' in the big wide world:
Just do it - I know it's an oldie but still a goodie
words that DON'T:
Liberalism, conservatism and (whoops that is 3)
have this weird dream - you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?
Hopefully in my bed - I snore if I sleep elsewhere - what does he say
the big secret you're itching to share with everyone?
I am the only member of the Middlesbrough football club fan club - nelson
would your 'emerging church survival kit' contain?
Valium, a few candles, a staple gun, frost cloth, a role of sticky tape
and a power drill
else you'd like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Yes but I can't remember what it was...
Good to see you, have a good day!
